The Neuroanatomic Foundation of Language Production: Visual Examination Using Functional Magnet Resonance Imaging (fMRI)

Neuroanatomische Grundlagen der Sprachproduktion: Bildgebende Untersuchungen mittels funktioneller Kernspintomographie (fKST)

The aim of this project is to identify lateralization, hemispheric interaction, and connections between frontal and temporal cerebral areas during speech production. Recent developments in neuroimaging techniques allow us to observe parallel activation of functional brain modules with noninvasive measurements. In particular, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) provides a method that is superior to conventional PET imaging in both spatial and temporal resolution. Our test paradigms include articulatory, prosodic, and syntactic tasks. The project is maintained by neurologists, neuroradiologists, linguists, and phoneticians.

The project is supported by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), Schwerpunktprogramm Sprachproduktion.
