Data from DeKoThe descriptive work carried out in DeKo is based on an extensive data collection from corpora and from the existing literature: For all affixes treated in the derivational part of DeKo and for the compounding rules defined, the results of the data collection are summarized in tables and lexical lists.Examples of such tables can be found here, one each for a derivational process leading to a noun , a verb and an adjective.
Contents of the tablesThe descriptive model underlying the tabular representation and the formal modelling derived from it are described in a general way in the article by [Schmid et. al. 2001] . A detailed description is given in [Lüdeling/Schmid 2001].Note that derivational rules are described in terms of
The tables are subdivided into three parts according to this distinction.
Lexical listsWe model only regular and productive processes ; regularity means predictable morphological and semantic behaviour; items constructed according to regular rules can typically be productively built by speakers and understood transparently by hearers.
Items which are morphologically regular but behave semantically in a way not compositionally predictable according to the rules are called semi-idiomatic items in DeKo. Sample lists of semi-idiomatic items are available along with the tables. We list these items and mark them in the lexicons derived from DeKo.
Please note that these are merely samples - not exhaustive lists!
Use of and access to the tables and listsThe tables and lists below are meant as an illustration of the working procedures of DeKo. The material on this web site can be freely used.Researchers interested in material concerning other word formation processes than those documented here may get access, for research purposes only, upon request. In such cases, please contact U.Heid.
