Abstract:

Visualization in NLP - A user's view

Over the last few years, the relevance of the visualization in NLP dramatically increased. While still a rather short while ago, it was mainly limited to sound oscillograms, syntactic trees or semantic graph sketches, nowadays it draws upon the full range of state-of-the-art visualization techniques. However, the field of visualization has even more to offer: visual analytics that facilitates analytical reasoning for the solution of NLP problems. In this talk, I will first assess the visualization applications in NLP and review them then briefly from the perspective of visual analytics. In the second part of the talk, I will present the use of visualization and visual analytics in the research of the NLP group at UPF.
