The best way to get to the workshop is via "Hauptbahnhof" (main station). All long-distance trains stop there and there is also a regional train (S-Bahn, indicates by a white "S" on a green circle) from the airport to "Hauptbahnhof", which takes about 30 minutes. You can take line S2 (to "Schorndorf") or S3 (to "Backnang") from the airport to "Hauptbahnhof". Therefor you need a ticket that is valid for 3 zones (zones 38, 20, and 10). A three-zone single ticket costs EUR 3.50.

From "Hauptbahnhof" to the university, you can either walk, which takes about 10 minutes (cf. Google maps link above), or you can take a bus. The bus stop next to the university is "Katharinenhospital", which is right opposite of the two big university buildings (K1 and K2). The bus lines 40 (to "Vogelsang") and 42 (to "Erwin-Schoettle-Platz") go from "Hauptbahnhof" to "Katherinenhospital", which is one stop. As you are allowed to change and as "Hauptbahnhof" and "Katharinenhospital" are both in the same zone (zone 10), you don't have to purchase a new ticket if you already have one from the airport. Note however that single tickets are valid for 2 hours, at most. If you only need to take the bus you can buy a so-called "Kurzsteckenticket" (short distance ticket, EUR 1.20), which is valid for at most three stops. If you start from somewhere else in zone 10, e.g. at your hotel, you should buy a one-zone ticket (EUR 2.10). Note that the Studentenhotel, which is near the stop "Stöckach", is not in zone 10, but zone 20, which means that you need a ticket for two zones (EUR 2.60). All other hotels listed above are in zone 10. For more detailed information, please refer to the website of the Stuttgart public transportation service VVS.

The workshop will take place in the building K1, i.e. Keplerstr. 11. The room is 11.32, which is on the third floor. There is a broad open staircase between the buildings K1 and K2. Going upstairs, K1 is the left building. Note that the elevators work differently in this building: you have to tell the system in advance to which floor you're heading (touch screens!). The system then tells you which elevator to take.

A taxi from the airport to the city center (university and/or main station) costs about EUR 35. There should be taxis available at the airport, however the number of the "Taxi-Zentrale Stuttgart" (Stuttgart taxi office) is +49-711-55.10.000. Note that the University of Stuttgart is located on two campus: Stadtmitte (city center) and Vaihingen. The building K1 (venue of the workshop) belongs to the former, i.e. to campus Stadtmitte. This might be important if you want to come by taxi.
